Comments: A good race, after last years problems with the hotel, it was good to have everything run smoothly. Will definitely be back next year.

Comments: I thought the road could have been prepared better by having potholes filled... Alternatively, congratulations on a far superior certificate allocation post-race than last year. Last year was an absolute shambles and one I care to forget but this year with completely the opposite. Well done on making this so much quicker and easier for runners!

Comments: RAK was extremely well organized. It was so nice to have markers at each kilometer. I was able to give the map to my husband so he could meet me at various points along the way to offer encouragement. I would definitely run this race again and recommend it to others. I especially liked having the race packet delivered to my home. That is an absolutely fabulous thing to do!

Comments: Overall the event was great. What really let is down was the lack of men's toilets at the begining. I waited in line for 20 minutes which somewhat spoiled my pre-race routine. Other male runners neve got to use the toilet and if you are running for two hours, that's a huge distraction.

Comments: Loved the 5km splits with certificate at the end. Course was good and challenging in parts but occassional pot holes and uneven ground could have caused injury. Start seemed a little jumbled but difficult with large numbers. 1km distance markers and regular drinks stations was great. Lots of bathroom facilities a plus. Overall much more organised and well-run than the Dubai marathon.

Comments: The course was a good flat course with a minimum of tight turns, for me coming from Scotland that was unusual. The time of the start was changed and no-one told us, we travelled by the official "coach" from Dubai and all of the passengers were starting to panic as we neared the start place within minutes of the stated start time. The "school bus" was not the anticipated airconditioned coach, not the best way to encourage travelling racers out of their cars, in fact a number of people returned to dubai by taxi. The set up at the start was fine although the focus was certainly on the elite athletes with the others being an afterthought. The finish area was good and well stocked with drinks, and showers were available and clean. I like the tshirt however my wife had ordered a small womens shirt but received a man's medium, basicallytwo for me. All in all a good experience to fit into our holiday, the KM markers were brilliant and really helped click of the time, the water stations were also well stocked and well managed. I enjoyed my trip to RAK and will probably make the effort to return one day, and now the secret is out of good prize money for masters athletes then I am sure you will find more folks willing to make the journey. Thanks for a good event.

Comments: I was very impressed at how well laid out and clear all information on this race was. This was my first half marathon and I was nervous about it being confusing but it was not at all. My only complaint about the course would be to have had the port a potties a little earlier as I had to go early from "hydrating" so much prior to the race. Having the distance marked every km was nice and the helpers were just that, helpful! I would recommend The City Hotel for its location but not much else, but it was fun for my family to hang out on the balcony and watch the start and finish. The Pasta Party the night before was tasty and fun to see the other runners. I will do this race again next year.

Comments: My only gripe would be the that the course was a bit boring. It would be nice if it didn't loop back on itself. Apart from that very good and maybe you should organise the Dubai marathon, as they obviously don't know how! By the way Nathan, the German Timing company never did let us use our own champion chips.....I think they were just being difficult

Comments: Great race! Everyone was friendly and pretty organized. Only complaint was regarding T-shirts. Wasn't there enough time for you to have correct T-shirt sizes? Also, T-shirts were transparent--not useful for living in Muslim countries. On the other hand, I was particularly impressed with the bathroom facilities. For makeshift bathrooms, they were clean and even had the hand showers next to the toilets. Very nice.

Comments: Despite the early start the RAK 1/2 marathon is an enjoyable race to participate in. Watching the sun rise while going through the warm up routine was inspiring for the run ahead. The drawback being the lack of spectators round the course (probably due to the start time). Having completed similar distance runs & events elsewhere, I have personally found that an enthusiastic crowd and race organised entertainment helps to carry you round those difficult k's and helps to take your mind of any pain!! The RAK course layout lends itself perfectly to have some form band/music entertainment at the 3,10 & 18 km areas to help motivate the runners at their different stages of the run. It may also help to draw bigger crowds at the various parts of the course other than the start and finish line. The PA shouting your name/number/nationality as you approach the finish line is a great touch and helps to you dig deep for that crowd pleasing 'sprint' finish. Road side marshalls and drink station volunteers all assisted for an organised race. The ample parking at the start/finish line was an added bonus to the ease of being part of the event. This has been problematic in some events I have taken part in. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and one I would recommend to any running enthusiasts. Thank you

Comments: T-shirt too see-through; dark vest better Start too late (6-6.30am would be better) Advise on website about wearing shades as a 5km stretch (between about 10k and 14k) is directly into the bright sunshine. Have bananas at the end, not capri-sun.

Comments: Good facilities at the start of the race, would liked to have the option of isotonic/sports drinks during the course but all had run out. I would recommend splitting the starting line from walkers and runners as I had some difficulty passing the walkers at the start of the race. Possible variation of the course from the 11K to 17K was very monotonous and the road surface in parts was badly damaged. However, the support in this area was extremely welcomed from the residence and an Emirati lady marshall who was at the roundabout at the 16K mark was fantastic - keep her on for next year!! I would recommend a possible earlier starting time as it got really hot half way through the race - possible 7am kick off. I would recommend the marathon for friends etc to participate, I thought the foot tags, certificates, photos etc were fabulous. Very well organised over

Comments: RAK was the best organised race that I have ever taken part in. It was a huge disappointment that i received a small mens t-shirt instead of a small ladies however. I ran a Half-Marathon Personal Best and would have loved to have (for once) received a t-shirt that i can wear training instead of another to add to my collection of nightshirts.

Comments: Time keeping system with the sms and the instant printed certificate and the chip were awesome - one of the best organised I've seen. water stations can you use cups not bottles - the waste proper polyprop tshirt that I can use again (no one will use cotton) excellent job guys - no complaints

Comments: The prize giving stage needs to be in a position so that competitors can easily observe/take part in the prize ceremony. More toilets for no 2's. Is it necessary to have such big bottles of water at every water station, maybe the smaller 1's should be available, the same with the sports drinks. What is the procedure when an inflatable KM marker breaks down? Maybe a KM sign there as well? Dont get me wrong it was a well organized event but still a few points to consider so the whole thing flows better, but this will come with time and better planning.

Comments: I rated the course a but lower, because I think it is a bit boring. Last year it was the same, why not to to vary from year to year. Otherwise a very good event, I like the time keeping every 5 km.

Comments: T Please instead of giving everyone a t-shirt, provide a finisher t-shirt, it has a lot more value for everyone. Also having the relay people passing you is not encouraging and you do not understand sometimes where they come from. This is more disturbing than anything else. Please provide fresh fruit during the race at th water station. Otherwise the Race is nice and well organised. Comments: I was disappointed the drinks were not decantered into cups and there was a lot of waste - esp the sports drink. I was running at the end of the pack and as a result didn't get any sports drink during the race. I did have plenty of water but I really needed a sports drink!! Apart from this I had a really great time - thought it was well organised. The dog leg in the middle to end really tests you as its quite boring and the lack of shade was hard as it was quite a warm morning. Would really recommend the race to others and would consider going again.

Comments: Good race, but stations after 15KM ran out of isostar, and had none avaliable even though i finished under 2hrs. Not a big deal though, i will come back again.

Comments: The last water station ran out of sports drinks way too early. As my first half marathon ever i really was relying on an energy drink for my last 5 km but they just werent there (only water). I paid 120 AED for the bus which was a huge disappointment. The bus was extremely old, not in good condition at all. The seats were way too close together and my partner could not fit his legs between our seat and the one in front of us! for 120 AED there should have at LEAST been a newer bus.

Comments: The only comment I have about the race is the water/refreshment tables/handouts. The water should be given in sackets and not in a bottle (with no spout). One cannot drink from a bottle whils running without hurting your lips, or looking away from the road. Energy drinks are spilt all over your body if not handed in a sacket or bottle with a spout. That is my only critics the rest was awsome!!!

Was a great race and would definately do again. My free T shirt was the wrong size but lovely light weight T shirts the only problem totally see through so I would not feel comfortable wearing it running in Dubai.

Comments: The only complaint I have is that each time I reached a water station at the 5 / 10 / 15km marks wanting a Gatorade, there was none left... and there must have been at least 500 - 800 runners behind me, yet nothing left when I was there. It was hard doing the race on water alone. However, as my first half marathon I found it a very enjoyable race and will definitely be back next year to better my time!

Comments: This was the second time I had done RAK. Travelling from Abu Dhabi the night before was horrendous due to traffic jams going through Dubai and many times we thought about turning back. So glad we perservered. The atmosphere at the start line was amazing, and as a Scot seeing the RAK police pipe band was quite moving. The course is a relatively flat scenic course and the blow up arches at each kilometre mark ensured you did not miss any targets. The atmosphere at the finish line was buzzing and I loved the balloons. I am a 'slow' runner but the event does not intimidate you at all, unlike some I have ran. Well done RAK, if I am able I will be there in 2011.

I know you probably want to attract more people from Dubai but if you start at 6.30 am that shouldn't have an impact on your overall numbers it will however make it more comfortable for the participants who have trained very hard to be a part of this race.

Comments: The race was great, but the package delivery to those outside the UAE was a disaster. While the director did email us and maintain professional communication, our packages were still lost. We first had them sent int'l to Qatar for which we paid extra money. Then the packages were supposed to be sent to our Dubai hotel, which they were not. We still do not know what happened to our packages. At the race we were allowed to get timing chips and run, but were given 2 WOMENS extra large race shirts (for my husband and I). This was unfortunate because there are hardly any races in Qatar and we were reallly looking forward to racing and getting our packages before the race. In sum, the procedure and follow up for delivery race packets to international runners needs to be revised.

Comments: I have run the RAK Half marathon every year and organisation is better every year. I like the course & introductions/sense of good feeling before the race. New route is better than that up&back from traffic lights@end of race we ran one year. I know it's difficult starting/finishing in carpark but other races (eg Dubai marathon/Creek Striders half marathon) benefit having good area with chairs/tables f&b etc to sit both runners&spectators at the end of the race as you can't really socialise with anyone after race,so most people head off home as soon as they finish. Thanks for setting up races.

Comments: This was one of the best-organized races I've ever run. Good directions on website to find the event. Plenty of parking not far from start line. Bibs and timing chip devices provided ahead of time, so no hassles the morning of the race. Course was clean and clearly marked. Plenty of water and gatorade stations. Nice spectators all along the course. Every kilometer was clearly marked. Medal given at finish line was a nice reward. Love the way they send a text message to mobile phone after the race with your official time. Only (minor) complaint: I couldn't find the race start time anywhere on the website. Night before the race I was trying to figure out what time the start was. That is a failry simple, important peice of information that should be easy to find on the website.

Comments: Compared to similar events I joined into, I find the RAK half marathon a well-organized and well-timed event. I was able to get my medal, my certificate and my timings on the day of the event itself. However, there's not much to look forward to before and after the event: no pre-race program to build up the excitement and after the race, it's pretty much the same thing.

The course was excellent and very flat which helped me out a lot. The only complain is about the toilet facilities at the start and finish, which can be improved with more cubicles and toilet paper.

Comments: This is the first time I have done any half marathon, having previously been a Dubai 10Km runner 4 times. After the farcical organization at Dubai this year - over 10,000 participants being the claim, but most of them walking and generally getting in the way - the RAK event was a pleasure to be part of. The whole thing from registration; pack delivery; the start of the race; course markers marshalls and water ststaion staff; through the finish and even getting the race time certificate in minutes before using the excellent showers was superb. The text after the race was even welcome. I will be there next year as it is simply the best event and I have to beat that first half marathon time!

Comments: It was another great race event. I would really like to have had the opportunity to have some energy drink though, it was not available for most of the time with it mostly being discarded. It needs to go into cups or something as a full bottle is not necessary. I would like also to see a little fruit or something as soon as we finish, a banana would be ideal. Little things really in the bigger picture. Thanks to all the organising committee for another successful event.

Comments: Mini-isotonic drink bottles or squeezy bags would have been welcome. General comment from this event as well as others arranged in the Emirates is that there are never enough rehydration drinks on the courses. Water helps enormously, but electrolytes are very important, particularly after the 10 km mark. Thank you for a great morning.

Comments: It should have started early by 6:30 AM since it started getting very hot towards the later phase of the race. Gatorade was promised every 5 Kms, but I got it just at the 5K mark. Otherwise, the race was well organised in terms of the medical support, water stations, marshals, instructions, over all registration procedure and ofcourse monitoring.

Comments: As my first time running in a half marathon and outside Dubai, where it is preceded by the Dubai Marathon, I would say RAK Marathon was amazing! From ease of registration to the Race Pack, to the medal, it was simply the best. I loved the spectators support as well. It seemed well publicized and well promoted in RAK that locals supported the event, cheering the runners and even taking pictures of us. It was so cool I felt like a real athlete and a celebrity! I would suggest a more scenic route though, although route was nice as it is- just wasn't (for me) not scenic enough.

Water bottle size was perfect. Loved the fact that you could collect your certificate immediately with timings. Photos great! Any chance to have a more scenic route perhaps through the desert and by the Gulf.

Comments: I didnt do it because of the change in date. My brother did it and thought it was good but needed to be run when it's cooler. Not much on for spectators - nowhere open for morning coffee which was a wasted opportunity. Better for spectators if screen to watch the race as it moved away from start/finish area. Could have been more of interest for runners along the way - in the great north run (UK) they have bands playing, fly-bys by aeronautical squads etc.

Comments: As my first ever race, I couldn't have asked for a better course. Registration and organisation were all very well done and the only gripe I have is the lack of sports drinks distributed at the stations on the course - I didn't see any until I finished, and I was in need of sugars around 15kms. Someone told me they were there, but just set back from the edige of the road... they must have been very set back and there was certainly no one standing in the road handing them out like the water. Water stations were very good.

Comments: The Start and Finish went much better this year than last year. Loved having a shower at the end, thanks!! One major concern I have had over the past 3 years is the mass release of helium filled balloons. They may look nice and festive, however, once they deflate, they are bascially RAK Half's LITTER. These many deflated plastic balloon casings turn into MORE UNWANTED GARBAGE filling the streets and deserts in an already litter strewn UAE. One extremely serious problem facing animals, primarily CAMELS, is the consumption of the plastics found littering its desert habitat. Many CAMELS DIE eating these plastics. DOES the RAK Half Marathon wish to support (perhaps unintentially) such unfortunate environmental "crimes". WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP OUR ENVIRONMENT! I LOVED the addition of the large blown up kilometre markers! Great idea. Seeing them from a distance almost made the kilometres go by faster! THANKS! Overall, the RAK Half-M is a FANTASTIC event ... and hopefully the future events will eliminate the problem of spreading colourful balloon "carcasses" over the land ... FINGER CROSSED!

However 2 ancillary points: - on the day the RAK police had shut the approaching road off to traffic far too early. 10 mins before the start would do, come on this is Friday am in RAK and not rush hour in London. They diverted many of us in to some residential area, and everyone as getting lost. I had to plead with the policeman to let us back on to the road. Nonetheless I am sure some will not have made it to the start because of this, which is very annoying when you've made the effort to get there. - with regard to this survey, its very good and a useful tool. The length of questions is right. BUT the list of drop-down answers to the question 'Would you take part in this event again?' are ridiculous and i very nearly closed ths survey down before finishing. Come on, lets keep it professional and provide a 'Yes I enjoyed the event and will certainly consider taking part again' option. It was NOT life changing for most of runners, and so you leave us with little option but to say we 'may' run it again.

Comments: Pleased I decided to stay the night at City hotel, located opposite the start line. Great welcome at reception and early breakfast from 5am provided (although the choices offered not exactly suitable for half marathon runners)! Check out was 2pm, so time to have a shower after the race before driving home. Disappointing that the energy drinks only provided at 5km point and none at the finish (unless they had all been taken by the time I reached there)! Too many walkers at the start getting in the way of runners and joggers (which I am). At previous events I've attended the organisers have asked that walkers either keep to the side or start at the rear, also the marshalls along the route could remind them to keep to the side. Great support from many of the marshalls and especially to the 15km water station that cheered everyone of us slower runners, very much appreciated especially as we could see the faster ones on the other side of the road and 5kms ahead!

Comments: A very well organised event. The drink stands were very well supported and the admin staff at the start and finish were very courteous and professional. I like the way you involved the young people as well. I would certainly recommend it to anyone. Hopefully there will be more spectators next year but I'm aware that it is very early start. Very enjoyable. At the great North Run they have a designated meeting area that is laid out alphabetically, as the number of competitors rises it may be an option. There may be the possibility of some trade stands at the finish to attract supporters as well. Hope the race continues to go from strength to strength.

Comments: Good showers but need a bench in to put dry clothes on etc as floor was wet. When the main door of shower bloke was opened when someone entered the whole world could watch us getting dried Water stations need offer water to runners both hands. Most stations only offered to one which meant runners had to get in line to collect or miss it. If offered to both hands it would give option. Over all it is a fantastic event that is growing each year. You listen to runners comments and improve. The event is maturing like a good wine.

Comments: The course is great, except for the occasional crack on the road, on the positive side it allows runners to get a glimpse into the all the main sights of RAK has to offer. It was a shame that no energy drinks were available, but after receiving an email from the race organisers explaining the issue on race day they cleared the air and were honest enough to give all the participants a true picture of what the situation was. Though I personally feel the runners should have been informed at the start line that no energy drinks would be available along the course. A lot of people seem to be complaining about the long lines for the certificates but again the race organisers went out and issued them online, but what people missed to see that there was a lot of staff including the race director handing out and working very hard getting the certificates issued on the day itself. What I would like to see more of in 2010 - spectators - activities for spectators - more food and refreshment stalls - transfers from hotel to the race - some entertainment along the course possibly along the lines of the rock and roll marathon. Overall the RAK half marathon is a total community event and the community sprit really becomes evident seeing little kids/parents helping out at the drink stands, cheering and supporting the runners throughout the course it was truly amazing. Would like to thank Nathan for a great 2009 event, I can’t wait for in the 2010 edition.

Comments: It was an excellent terrain and the organisation of the event was great. The RAK police and Ambulance support was excellent, and the Marshalls/Volunteers did a great job. Where it could improve, and as the organiser has acknowledged is - post race certificate distribution, the distribution of energy drinks and the availability of post-race snacks. I've run the Mumbai Half Marathon, and a small packet of post race snacks is usually given complimentary to each participant. I hadn't carried money to the venue, so couldn't even buy any of the snacks (which were too greasy and sweet!) and had to wait until I had collected the certificate and then gone back to my hotel to get something to eat.

Comments: You need to fix up the roads in places. The award ceremony was a farce, I waited and waited, got feed up and could not see what was going on, so I left. There should be a little more food and beverages on ofer at the end, most runners are not carrying cash to buy refreshment at the end of a race. The instant times online was great. A good day out.

Comments: Hi, I was one among the last who completed but the race, I am happy to say that inspite of my sprained leg after 4 km and walking the rest of the race I managed to complete the race. I should congragulate all the Marshalls and the water distributor kids they were very supportive till the end. I would suggest that next year please get the road leveled due to which I sprained my leg but was not that serious though. but I could not jog after that. Keep up the good work guys. Comments: Coming for the first time to RAK I was hugely impressed by the dedication and manner of the organizing committee. The event was one to see and be seen in. An excellent effort by the event managers coupled with record breaking performances of the athletes makes this one of the few events that should be on everyone's calendar. See you next time!!!
