“Sadly the event had to be adjusted due to bad weather conditions. Having travelled from London for the event, I was deeply disappointed that you were unable to allow some more time before deciding to eliminate the swim . Secondly, cutting the run and cycle distances was deeply disappointing. For this reason, I choose not to participate, having been up since 4am, and being advised at 6am that the start was likely to be 8am.”
“Another good race, thanks to all involved. Also, great to see a positive response to recent feedback. Cheers, Bryan.”
“Whilst appreciating sometimes decisions are taken out of the organisers' hands by other authorities, there was no good reason for this event to be adapted to a Duathlon as the fog cleared, as fog always does. On the plus side, the commentator again did a superb job of keeping all informed with regular updates. This event is overpriced. 200Dhs is far too much. The only overheads I can see are: 1 half day scaffolding hire (racking) 122 biro pens A few bottles of coke & water Where is the money going? This is a monopoly and I fear we are the captive market. All is not lost, if you want to go on charging 200Dhs, I suggest these improvements: Timing System providing splits Water Safety with a minimum of 2 canoes (the short length of this course attracts many weaker swimmers & irrespective of this, stronger swimmers can drown when things go wrong. There are NO real exit points on the swim. Canoes would go some way to mitigate this risk). A Longer course option - ie Olympic Distance Goody Bags - you know, with goodies in! ”
“Expensive day out, Value for money it is not. Well organised in general, nice course but you really don't get much for AED 200, if there was a realistic alternative I would take it.”
“Brilliant race, cut short and postponed due to fog but a thoroughly enjoyable morning :)”
“The hotel price is actually 550 per night and not 450 aed as per your website”
“Credit to the organisers for taking a firm decision and then sticking to it, despite whinging from some. But the fact remains that it was a shame to go to an ultra-sprint duathlon, when an additional 30 mins wait, as per the published rules, would have delivered the promised race. Draft busters were in evidence and this put paid to those who would win by any means. This too was well done. Nicholas Tipper was in a class of his own - outstanding to see such a fine athlete winning so emphatically. Suggest: People paid for a Triathlon against the published rules. Your website has a contingency plan for fog which allows for incremental delays. Stick to your rules and no one can be disappointed. Change the standard course for next year and make it a loop. This should reduce the requirement for draft busters as the roundabout at the Cottages makes breakaway difficult and gives drafters an excuse. Consider making this an Olympic distance series, or run two distances on the day. Add championchip timing. Despite the routine of the event, we still get no splits. Reduce entry fees. AED 200 is a lot of money without a T shirt, proper timing or other valued goodies! One could look at this event (a 40 minute race) as AED 1000 per minute income. Otherwise be transparent about where our entry money goes. Take heed of ratings, your approval percentages are way down on everyone else who is providing a sporting event. Triathlon is a growing sport but if you take the punters for granted someone may spot it and provide an alternative for them. Or they will get bored of being let down and give up on our sport. We all like the Ghantoot venue, and in the absence of a regular olympic event or sprint triathlon elsewhere, we have little option but to pay up and play to your rules. It galls if the races are poorly organised or bad value for money, or if you fail to deliver on your offer. ”
“Well organised but very poor value.”
“I feel the entry fee is steep – in my opinion you do not get value for money. There is no timing system, a lack of safety provided for the swim, the bag containing 'freebies' is empty (except for a pen and some promotional flyers) and the fruit previously provided at the end of the race has disappeared. I would also suggest someone Marshalls the transition area - a number of times I have seen people taking ‘shortcuts’. I wonder where the entry fee goes? Considering the race is sold out every time – AED 200 entry fee x 200 participants = AED 40,000 per event…? Then multiply that by 6 events…”
“Excellent organisation as usual. It's all good.”
“Timing: it is a pity that we don't have intermediate time.”
“Great event as always - big thanks to Jamie, Jason, Simon and the team.”
“Good job in difficult weather conditions. Right choices made and as always, an enjoyable morning event ”
“Well organsied despite the weather conditions”
“I hope the organisers continue to offer this series of events next year.”
“I had a fantastic time at this event. The organisers and the police did a brilliant job of adapting the event, the course and the start time to the foggy conditions. They kept us safe, and still managed to provide an event that was great fun. Very many thanks ! ”
“I think the organisers made the best they could of a challenging weather situation which couldn't be helped!”
“Good at keeping the competitors informed of the changes to the race and quick to change the format of the race although when entering the race the possibility of a duathlon was not mentioned. Also expensive entry for no chip timing, or something to commemorate the event eg hat, t-shirt, medal or even sticker and nothing remotely interesting in the bag from registration. ”
